At the beginning of 2020, I had the opportunity to purchase a mobile ice cream business—Best Ice Cream on Wheels, also known as BICOW—from a dear friend. The business included two ice cream vans, a customer database, and some freezers. At the time, I was already running two businesses and knew I wouldn’t be able to give a mobile ice cream operation the attention it needed to truly succeed. However, I knew someone who could—my sister, Cindy. She succeeds at everything she does. She’s organized, frugal, and a natural leader (yes, a little bossy!), all qualities that make her perfect for managing the kind of team this business requires.
I also loved that this business could bring together multiple generations. Over the years, it has truly become a family effort—even my mother has served on the vans! Alongside Cindy, my niece Malli and my sister Susan were instrumental in getting us through that first year. Since then, my children, and a couple of my grandchildren, nieces, great-nieces and nephews, and close friends have all worked on the vans. I’m incredibly grateful to each and every one of them.
For every frozen treat we sell, we first give thanks to our Lord and Savior. We are also deeply thankful for every customer—boys, girls, men, and women—who have supported us over the years. Without you, there would be no BICOW!
Most of our days are spent driving neighborhood routes, but we are also blessed to partner with county food truck nights, schools, summer camps, sports events, daycares, churches, corporations, pool parties, and HOAs. We love being part of birthday parties, fundraisers, and we also have a “Give Back” program.
We take great pride in operating a safe, clean business that families can trust. We want parents to feel comfortable sending their children to our serving window. It’s a responsibility we take very seriously—your children’s happiness and safety are always our top priorities.
Our menu offers something for everyone, including favorites like Bomb Pops, ICEE Cups, Magnum Bars, Butterfinger and Snickers treats, Moose Tracks cones, popsicles, Sour Wower, character pops, and our famous frozen cheesecake!
Kandi’s Best Ice Cream on Wheels is dedicated to my dad, Ed Standridge, who lost his battle with cancer but gained his eternal home in heaven. Before he got sick in early 2020, he made a comment that stuck with me—he said he wasn’t sure I could sell enough ice cream to make it. It was the only time he ever doubted me. So, Daddy…this one’s for you. Turns out, you were wrong just that once.
P.S. If you’ve made it this far, please remind your children not to chase the vans—we want them to safely enjoy their ice cream!
With kindest regards,
Kandi Bolton
